Beaches near Santiago de Compostela (IV): Queiruga Beach in Porto do Son
Queiruga Beach, near Santiago de Compostela: a Caribbean-style beach in the heart of the Rías Altas
If you’re planning to spend a weekend or your summer holidays in Santiago de Compostela and stay at Hostal México, today we suggest a getaway to one of Galicia’s most spectacular yet little-known beaches: Queiruga Beach.
This unspoiled stretch of fine sand with moderate waves is mixed-use (nudist and non-nudist across the entire beach) and lies just 52 km from Santiago de Compostela (less than 40 minutes along the Noia Corridor, which includes a bridge that bypasses the town of Noia and shortens the journey by about 10 minutes compared to the old route).
It’s a natural paradise where you can park your car almost right on the sand, whichever entrance you choose. Just 3 km from Baroña Beach, which we mentioned in a previous post, Queiruga offers much easier access. A solo 3 km de la playa de Baroña, de la que ya os hablamos en un post anterior, pero que tiene un acceso mucho más fácil que la anterior.
You simply cannot miss this beach. On your way back to Santiago de Compostela, before heading for the relaxing shower waiting in your room at Hostal México, we suggest discovering a hidden surprise. Just before reaching Porto do Son, look out for a small turnoff to the right on a sharp bend, next to the company “Mármoles Mayo.” There you’ll find a wonderful Ibiza-style chill-out spot, perched on a cliff with stunning sea views. With comfy sofas and furniture made entirely from pallets, this hidden gem is the perfect place to enjoy an ice cream or a coffee with good music before continuing your trip back to Santiago.
